Residence permit in Slovakia for non-EU nationals

There are two ways to obtain it, but one is not convenient as we are going to show hereinafter.

The only way to obtain a residence permit is through a business license or a formation of a company that does business in SK. The permit depends, therefore, on the business that the client is going to run in SK. This is very important as he has to show that he’s doing something there, so it’s better to find out what the client is able to do and choose a type of business compatible with his curriculum.

  • Set up a limited liability company (SRO) for the client. This needs a Slovak director (the shareholder being the foreigner) and proof of at least 23.000 euros deposited in a bank account (we need a statement from the bank). Unfortunately, at the moment, for this kind of activity, there’s a compulsory check by the Ministry of Economy that has to verify the utility and value of the business for the country. This process can take up to one year, and it’s never been done before six months; more importantly, we can’t grant a positive response from the Ministry.
  • Set up sole entrepreneurship. This is an individual-run business, and it has no check from the Ministry. the first step is issuing a trade license certificate. This process needs the following steps.
  • A scan of the criminal record (CR) from the country where he has the nationality + a scan of the CR from the country where he resides if he has been residing there more than six months. We will arrange the legalization and certified translation of them.
  • A scan of the passport.

With these, we can provide a trade license.

After the trade certificate has been issued, the applicant can go to the police office in Bratislava after the online registration or to the Slovak embassy, depending from the country of origin (after having obtained an appointment), with the following documents:

  • the trade certificate that we have been providing to him;
  • the proof of an address as his personal address (domicile) that we will provide to him;
  • the proof of the availability of a place where he’s running his business that we will provide to him;
  • a statement from a bank account in his name with a balance of at least 2.900 euros (the account must be denominated in euros). This account can be opened in any country but if it’s not from SK must be translated by a certified translator;
  • a statement from a bank in the name of his business with a balance of at least 4.700 euros. We can provide it to an SK bank using the trade license. If the client can’t come here, he can provide the statement from abroad, opening another account in his name in euro for the needed amount, in this case, must be translated.

We can grant the permit if all these documents and the procedures at the police or at the embassy are correctly done.
